Detail, Color Code ‘SOS’ flag, Luftwerk and Normal

This online guide examines the visual phenomenon of color and light. Many artists use color for a variety of effects, however, we focused on previous installations by Iñigo Manglano-Ovalle and Luftwerk which physically immersed visitors in color. Download the guide to see additional installation images and video documentation of both McCormick House exhibits.

On Sunday, June 28th at 3 pm, we co-hosted an online artist talk with Luftwerk moderated by Iker Gil. Go to the event page to watch the recording. Presented with Goethe-Institut Chicago, Farnsworth House, Fundació Mies van der Rohe, and MASContext.

In our downloadable From Home activity, learn more about the properties of color and light. This STEAM activity uses flashlights and homemade colored filters to playfully create colored effects, make colored shadows of an object, and demonstrate how colored light combinations can differ from mixed pigments.
