Forty Years of Aesthetic and Social Observation
A retrospective exhibit of artwork by Gary Schirmer

January 20th through March 1st
Artist’s Reception: Saturday, February 3rd from 6-8pm

Gary Schirmer is a seasoned artist of four decades, who brings three decades of expertise as a college-level studio art educator at the College of Dupage and Joliet Junior College. He is proficient in drawing, life drawing, painting, photography, and printmaking, and has also lectured in Art Appreciation. His professional journey spans commercial commissioned work, illustration, scenic painting, and fabrication for film, TV, and commercial photography. Notably, for twenty years he has been a freelance scenic artist with Chicago’s PBS station, WTTW.

As a Fine Artist, Gary initially focused on a representational/narrative style, exploring social and psychological themes within the history of human relations and the quandaries of the post-modern condition, through painting, drawing, printmaking, and photography. Recently, he has ventured into a diversity of processes and mediums, embracing a more formal and non-representational aesthetic.
